Arch Clin Exp Med. 2017;2(3):84-86. Abstract Parathyroid cancer is a rarely encountered disease which may accompany with hyperparathyroidism. It is hard to diagnose the disease before surgical treatment and to differentiate it completely from adenoma. The treatment of parathyroid cancer includes removal of the tumor and the thyroid lobe completely on the same side through neck exploration and removing the lymph nodes at the neighborhoods. For a successful operation, it is required to diagnose the disease preoperatively and to determine whether the disease spreads locally or extensively and to plan the surgical removal of the tumor on the basis of such findings. In this paper, a 71-year-old patient with an incidental parathyroid carcinoma diagnosed in the early postoperative period following an emergent orthopedic operation was presented. The final diagnosis was determined after the histopathological examination of the parathyroid gland.

Parathyroid Carcinoma: Case Report and Review of the Literatur
Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare cause of primary hyperparathyroidism and occurs in one percent of cases. Most of the patients at the time of diagnosis are young and the mean age is 40 year-old and occur with equal frequency in both sexes. In most series, serum calcium levels are ≽ 14 mg/dl and in half of them, a palpable cervical mass is evident. Clinical manifestations are maily due to hyperca...

Introduction: Radio-guided parathyroid surgery along with other minimally invasive surgeries constitutes the main surgical treatment procedures for different kinds of hyperparathyroidism. In this article we have reported our experience of radio-guided parathyroid surgery using Tc-99m sestamibi. Methods: Ten patients with hyperparathyroidism included in our study. ...
متن کاملUtility of 99mTc-Sestamibi SPECT/CT in the Early Localization of Metastatic Parathyroid Carcinoma
Parathyroid carcinoma is very rare, with only a few documented cases. Hence, metastatic lesions are infrequently documented on scintigraphic imaging. We present a case of a 63-year-old female presenting with elevated serum levels of ionized calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) who was referred to our department for a parathyroid scan with SPECT/ CT. Parathyroid scintigraphy showed a focus of i...

Parathyroid adenoma involving a single parathyroid gland is the underlying cause of 80-85% of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Skeletal system is significantly affected by PHPT. Brown tumors are known to have affinity for 99mTc-MIBI. We report a rare case of PHPT presenting with diffuse bony pain, high calcium level and significantly elevated alkaline phosphatase level. 99m<...
متن کاملParathyroid carcinoma in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1. Case report and review of the literature.
Parathyroid carcinoma is an infrequent cause of primary hyperparathyroidism. Although hyperparathyroidism in multiple endocrine neoplasia 1 (MEN1) syndrome is the most common manifestation, parathyroid carcinoma is rare. We report a male patient who was diagnosed at 44 years of age with parathyroid carcinoma in the context of MEN1 syndrome coincident with a malignant gastrinoma and non-function...
